Black Soda

  • Black Soda is my stage MC name. Black Soda is actually the name of a short drink (Johnny Black & Soda), its combination of edgy whiskey, crisp soda and of course the fact that it’s an alcoholic beverage is synonymous with my MC and rhyme style. The name has emanated from my separation of the two energies, or multiple energies that I have become able to access in order to freestyle different genres of music. The art of freestyle isn’t for everyone and it’s been a while since it was raised from the lax underground American non accessible hip hop sub culture to the art form it is now and I suppose Black Soda is trying to converge the many freestyle opportunities provided by music to streamline a new way of creative expression – a new African sound and energy that is raised and groomed in the hallways of the University of the Collective Objective – lectured by Black Soda.
With vocal style adaptability and firm buttery delivery, this vocalist lines various genre sounds with a wholesome, sassy sound both on the mic and in rhyme as a lyricist, poet, MC.
Her musical influence is vast – clearly visible in her unmatched freestyling talent of song, verse, rap and savoured in her extensive portfolio of written work.
Having debuted her first professional single (The Biko Song, produced in Norway) on the Scandinavian Radio Broadcaster – she is collaborating regularly with others like minded (Wade Nielsen (bass & acousticguitar), Bheki Dladla (musician ; lyricist & rapper)of iScream&ChocolateStix fame, O’Ryan Winter, Reds (Red Angel), Sheshani (Namibia) ; Vivid Tjipura ; DJ Kirsti).
Annely is 32 years old and has been making music, writing & reading poetry in Cape Town for over 7 years – alongside an acting career managed by Limited Edition Actors agency. The 2 Pls band represents her first live collab of live DJ beats and vocal designed for small social bars with generous sound.
Described as a voice and mind in her own category, she hails from the Namibia and currently lives in Cape Town engaging art and sound with the Collective Collective of musicians, MC’s and vocalists while acting, learning to assist photographers (MRSK photography), production executives (Silver Lining Pictures) growing plants and nurturing a growing chaperone & travel service, Green Earth Travel – a niche product, accessed through referral, friendship and word of mouth
