Kirsti Hugo Biog
Growing up in the Johannesburg music industry it only seemed natural for Kirsti Hugo to reach out to the unmistakable feel of vinyl becoming one of SA’s first and youngest talented female dj’s at age 17.
Not only was she a contributor to rocking dance floors nationally and internationally but she also gained event experiences by being a part of SA’s biggest dance party’s core team, H20 for 4 + years. Kirsti has also been involved any many dynamic crews responsible for some of the most original and unique events to ever shake the music industry. She has played along side house hold names such as Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules, Fatboy Slim, Sarah Main, DJ Diamond, Sister Bliss, Tony Cha Cha, DJ Fresh, Roger Goode and DJ Jean to name but a few.
DJ, live performer, promoter and marketing guru, Kirsti finds her centre in networking her skills as well as the people she meets to help grow the industry positively, rather than politically. This is proven throughout all her creative collaborations such as Fire and Ice (commercial scene), Red Meri (bridging commercial into underground – experimental), High Hat (Swing EDM), Mayday girls (Underground EDM – Techno) and the Collective Objective (EDM Collabs with live performing artists).
14 years later this creative character finds herself living, working and playing in Cape Town, performing seductive, multi-dimensional house and techno sets on dance floors whilst directing the fresh concept of Collective Objective, the ever growing “community – band” of musicians who come together in collaboration bringing dynamic sounds they like to call LOUNGE HOP influenced by jazz, lounge, house music, hip hop and even a dash of spoken word.
Her positivity and constant drive for adventure earned her a musical experience on several radio stations and dance floors in countries including The Netherlands, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mauritius and of course all over South Africa.
Influences such as Format B, Alex Smoke, Robby Sloan, Ryan Dent, Justin Vee, Jimmy Chronic, Marek Hemmann, tINI, Loco dice, Ray Okpara and many more have shaped this artist and inspired her growing passion.
Kirsti’s future goals include music production, performing LIVE production, promoting SA music artists through the Sunday Set Up, her weekly jam session as well as taking music to the fitness addicts through the well known brand, Spinning, where bikers experience a real workout over proper driving beats.
Kirsti has recently moved from hosting THE UNDERGROUND radio show alongside Vanessa Holliday on 2 Oceans Vibe Radio to hosting The Collective Objective Radio show on Mutha Fm, catch her here every Wednesday from 12 – 3pm along side Black Soda and Choc Stix, the former SAMA award winner of Ice Creame and the Chocolate Sticks.
