As a young raver I was introduced into the scene to many amazing acts which captivated and sucked me in hook line and sinker, however one of those acts always stood out from the rest with there twisted synths and epic atmospheric sounds, and that was Orbital!
I was pretty disappointed when I heard the news about the party being over for these guys, and yes electronic music pioneers Orbital announced their split after a 25-year-long career.
Brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll broke up in 2004 but reunited again in 2008 for an extensive tour, followed by a new album ‘Wonky’ in 2012 and a performance at the opening ceremony of the Paralympics.
“Orbital had stopped working properly,” says Paul Hartnoll. “We had a great four years since getting back together in 2008, but it was time to move on.”
Keeping with his word, Paul already has a new album ‘8:58’ which will be out on February 16 and will be accompanied by a UK tour.
The title track ‘8:58’ has been available as a free download and includes a monologue by Cillian Murphy, star of the BBC show Peaky Blinders whose soundtrack Paul has worked on. It can be downloaded from the new Eight Fifty Eight website where the full album can also be pre-ordered.
